Tree Removal & Stump Grinding on Canyon Gate Dr, Richmond, TX
Project Overview
- Location: Canyon Gate Dr, Richmond, TX
- Service: Tree Removal & Stump Grinding
- Date: February 2026
The Situation
A Richmond homeowner on Canyon Gate Dr had a large pecan tree that suffered a major split during a winter storm. The tree split into two halves at a narrow fork in the main trunk - a common failure point in pecan trees that were never properly pruned when young.
One half fell into the yard, while the other half remained standing but was now severely compromised.
Our Assessment
We determined that both halves of the tree needed to be removed:
- The fallen half was already on the ground and needed to be cut up and hauled away
- The standing half had exposed heartwood at the split point, was leaning, and had lost its counterbalance
The Work
Day 1: Fallen Section
- Cut the downed half into manageable sections
- Loaded and hauled all debris
- Cleared the yard for the next day's work
Day 2: Standing Section & Stump
- Used our bucket truck to remove the standing trunk from the top down
- Cut the trunk in 3-foot sections to manage the weight
- Ground both stump sections to 10 inches below grade
- Backfilled with grindings and leveled the area
- Performed final cleanup of the entire work zone
The Results
The homeowner's yard was completely cleared and clean. They were already planning to plant two smaller trees in the reclaimed space - a smart choice that avoids the single-point-of-failure risk of one large tree.
