The Situation
A proactive Cypress homeowner on Harvest Hill Ln contacted us to trim six trees on their property before spring storm season. They had experienced a close call the previous year when a large dead branch fell just a few feet from where their children were playing. They didn't want to take any more chances.
The Trees
The property had a mix of species typical for Cypress neighborhoods:
- 3 water oaks - Large, mature trees providing shade to the backyard
- 1 live oak - Centerpiece of the front yard
- 2 pine trees - Tall loblolly pines along the back fence
Our Approach
Water Oaks
Water oaks are fast-growing but produce abundant deadwood. We:
- Removed significant dead branches from all three trees
- Thinned the canopies by 15-20% for wind resistance
- Raised canopies to 12 feet over the yard
- Removed branches growing toward the house
Live Oak
The front yard live oak received:
- Crown cleaning (minimal deadwood - live oaks are resilient)
- Crown raising over the driveway to 14 feet
- Light thinning for aesthetic improvement
Pine Trees
For the loblolly pines:
- Removed all dead lower branches
- Cleaned out dead material from the interior
- Raised the canopy to clear the fence
The Results
Six trees fully trimmed and cleaned in a single day. The homeowner said it was the best their property had ever looked, and more importantly, they felt confident heading into storm season.
