The Situation
The homeowner on Hummingbird Ln had a large dead tree in their backyard that had been declining for over a year. The tree had lost all its leaves and bark was falling off in large sheets. Multiple large dead branches had already fallen into the yard, and the homeowner was worried about the next one hitting their fence or their children's play area.
Our Assessment
The tree was completely dead with advanced decay throughout the trunk and main scaffold branches. We found evidence of boring insect damage and fungal fruiting bodies on the lower trunk. The tree was beyond saving and needed complete removal.
The Work
Our crew completed the following:
- Full tree removal using sectional dismantling techniques
- Branch-by-branch takedown to protect the fence and play equipment below
- Trunk removal in sections
- Stump grinding to 10 inches below grade
- Backfill with wood chip grindings and topsoil
Safety Considerations
With the children's play area directly below, safety was our top priority. We roped off a generous work zone and used controlled lowering for every piece of the tree. No debris was allowed to free-fall.
The Results
The backyard was transformed from a hazard zone into a safe, open space. The homeowner was planning to install new sod over the stump area and expand the play area into the reclaimed space.
