Tree Trimming in Stillwater Bend, Spring, TX

Project Overview

  • Location: Stillwater Bend, Spring, TX
  • Service: Tree Trimming (4 trees)
  • Date: December 2025

The Situation

A Spring homeowner in the Stillwater Bend neighborhood wanted their trees trimmed before the holidays. They had family visiting and wanted the property looking its best. The four trees - two red oaks, a magnolia, and a large crepe myrtle - hadn't been trimmed in over four years.

Our Approach

Each tree received a customized trimming plan:

  • Red oaks: Crown cleaning, thinning (15%), and raising to 10 feet over the lawn. We removed several large deadwood pieces that could have been hazardous during winter storms.
  • Magnolia: Light pruning to remove dead branches and lift the canopy slightly. Magnolias have a naturally dense form that should be preserved.
  • Crepe myrtle: Proper pruning to remove crossing branches and seed pods, NOT topping (which we never do). We also removed suckers from the base.

The Results

The property was transformed just in time for the holidays. The homeowner was especially pleased that we preserved the natural shape of each tree while making them look clean and well-maintained.

A Note About Crepe Myrtle Pruning

Every winter, we see "crepe murder" - the practice of topping crepe myrtles by cutting the main branches back to stubs. This is harmful and unnecessary. Proper crepe myrtle pruning involves removing suckers, crossing branches, and seed pods while maintaining the tree's natural form.
